Feature Lighting
Throughout The Lodge conversions we have focussed on using feature lighting as our point of difference. Using a mix of pendants, exposed filament lightbulbs, wall lights and modern LED strip, each give a unique feel, sympathetic to their surrounding.
Let’s take a look at some areas of lighting that have bought character to their respective area and property.
The Media station in Paston House was one of the biggest pieces of bespoke joinery to date. With space for wireless connectivity of modern media, open display and hidden cabinetry we subtly up-lit this reveal with warm white LED. This LED lighting is switched separately allowing the customer to have an atmospheric, soft, low level lighting in particular for night time and enjoying the television.
This stunning pendant from the fabulous Industville lighting allowed us to bring a modern twist to this townhouse staircase. With five exposed filament style bulbs, industrial pewter pendants the light reflected perfectly off the glass balustrades and surrounding stair well.
With beautifully high ceilings throughout the lodge, we needed more than your basic pendant. These five (candle style) bulb pendants finished in antique white have been the perfect accompaniment to these large airy bedrooms. Supplied by the lovely team of Hilary and Alice, based in Diss these pendants come in five or eight bulb option.
LED mirrors add a contemporary feel to our bathrooms. One of the best bits of feedback from the customers so far has been around the choice of wall hung vanity and WC cisterns in the sanitary wear. By lifting them off the floor it makes for easy cleaning and the backdrop of the LED, mist-free mirrors allow for customers to use either the overhead spot lights or the more subtle LED mirror as two lighting options within the bathroom and ensuite.
Another shot of Paston House, feature oak staircase but this time looking at the effect of a natural sun light tunnel. Supplied by Velux, these cost effective solutions draw natural sunlight from the roof line and transfer down a rigid tunnel into the flat skimmed ceiling. The beautiful ambient lighting changes throughout the day and on a bright night gives a low level glow, perfect for night time movement and avoiding any bright lighting.
Traditional but effective, the bedside lamp remains a popular choice in lighting design. With many weird and wonderful lamps available now, here are some feature peacock lamps supplied by Hilary and Alice in the principal bedroom of Paston House. We ensure that each of our bedrooms are set up with a double socket either side of the bed for lamps and electrical devices. In bedrooms where the main light switch is too far from the bed, we also place a two-way switch at bedside for convenience.
Traditional, warm white, LED spot lights have become a popular and cost-effective lighting solution across the house. In Paston House, due to the open-plan design of the ground floor we chose to place Spot lights around the main living area to ensure no restriction from pendants and to give a bright-open space. At the far end, you will also see a feature eight-bulb pendant taking centre stage over the large dining table at the rear of the property.
Another Industville masterpiece now. We have been admirers (and purchasers) of the Industville brand for a period of time both in residential and commercial projects. They always seem to have solutions for all setting including wall lights, pendants, external lighting solutions and one-off statements.
In Raikes house we used wall lights for the stairwell reveals and fancied introducing some cut glass for this more traditional of settings. We are quite taken!

This needed to be glitzy, bold and have real presence to give what is arguably one of the best spaces in this entire conversion. This Titanic style staircase sits loud and proud taking centre stage in this 2,000 sq ft + conversion. Supplied by Hilary and Alice.
WOW - the stunning walk-in dressing area in Raikes House. This 3m squared space is illuminated by this sharp, sleek LED strip light perfectly blended into this modern skimmed ceiling. With wrap around design it floods the dressing area with light perfect for getting ready for the big night out. However, should the LED strip not be needed the customer has a second choice to opt for the toned down, warm white Spot lights for a lower level lighting.
